LSU and Sewanee (University of the South) Who were the purple and yellow tigers first?

Both of these schools have Tigers and the colors purple and yellow for their school colors and teams, does anyone know If one of the schools borrowed these from the other? I think Sewanee was founded first, was LSU perhaps founded by Sewanee Alumni?

The LSU Tigers were named for a Confederate military brigade from Louisiana called The Louisiana Tigers. They were given the name in the 1890's. Don't know about the colors or Sewanee's history.
