How do you set a camera lense to the medium telephoto length?

Just wondering, for a standard digital camera. Is it different for every one?

We have a technical term for that, focal length. The problem now is what camera are you using. Depending on the size of the digital sensor, telephoto (and the medium part of it) varies. On 35mm film and full-frame cameras, I'd say 100mm is medium telephoto. In medium format cameras, it would be at 170mm. In 1.5 crop dSLRs, it may be around 68mm. All those are for standard SLR cameras.

As for P&S cameras, there is no such thing as a standard. If we consider one of the largest digital sensor sizes for these cameras, medium telephoto would fall somewhere 23mm. Remember that that is one of the larger sensor sizes. The smallest size would fall somewhere at 7mm for medium telephoto.

Going back for comparison, 7mm to a full-frame or 35mm film camera is ultra-wide or fisheye and a lens like that would likely cost more than the camera itself.

Simply put for the lack of focal length reference, on any P&S camera, your guess is as good as mine. Zoom in to the max then zoom out a little. That would be the best possible guess I can make without any chance of accuracy ever.
