Canon EOS Rebel T2i for a beginner?

Do you recommend? Because I do not intend to use a lot of things and that's why. I do not know people say Canon EOS XS for me because I am a beginner but I want to get the Canon EOS Rebel T2i because more megapixels. So overall, which one? I really like what I heard about the 550d, that's why. I want to take many beaches and landscapes.

This is a little over kill for a beginner. I say this because you are a beginner how did you get serious about photography? Serious enough to invest that kind of money accounting for what may end up stored in a closet because you lost interest? I had set my sights a little lower to start, perhaps The Rebel XS. I have one and it is a great device.
